CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION
1.1
Background of the Study Language
is the most means of communication, whether spoken or written language. By the language, we can understand
what other people say. It means, communication
becomes a part of human life. Language is required by people to fulfill their need as an individual creature and as
part ofcommunity. By the language, people also can express their ideas, mind, feeling,
desireand emotion to another and get information
from others, response phenomena, share an idea, etc.
Understanding foreign language
especially English is not easy. We need to learn several linguistic branches; they are
Phonology, Syntax, Semantic, etc.
phonology studies about the sound
and their structure. Syntax studies the way words combine sentence. Semantic studies about the
meaning of words, phrases, sentences and
discourse.
In our daily activities, language
is used variatively like in speech, holy occasion or business. Language also uses to
expressour feeling such as in literary work,
poems, and lyrics of songs, novel or drama.
In this thesis, the researcher
wants to present theanalysis of Anggun songs including semantic in their meaning in the
song of Anggun. The researcher chooses this
song because it quite popular in our country. Besides Anggun is one of
Indonesian singer who is going abroad to
develop her talent.
Semantics' (as study of meaning)
is central study of communication become more and more crucial factor in social
organization. The need to understand it becomes
more and more pressing. Semantic also at the center of the study of human mind-though process, cognition and
conceptualization, all these are intricately bound up with the way. Which are classified and
convey out experience of the words through language.
Semantics is the term used to
refer to the study ofmeaning and since meaning is a part of language, semantic is a part of
linguistics. Crystal (in Dimjati, 2001:1) says that semantics is one of the brances of
linguisticsstudying about the meaning and it is considered as a major branch of linguistics
devotedto the study of meaning in language.
According to Cornell (1957:42)
meaning is essentially a matter of noun syntactic
semantic regularities. This is not to saythat meaning is simply a matter of such regularities but it does seem reasonable
to suppose that an element’s having meaning
in the language can be explicated primarilyin term of the non syntactic semantics regularities to be found pertaining
(directly or indirectly to the element).
Meaning is not easy to observe.
We have taken a little effort to show that it really does exist, most objectively based on
the fact that words and phrases have (nearly)
the same meaning, synonyms and paraphrasesrespectively, while other words have opposed meanings, antonyms or opposites
in common language.
Literature is a part of human
life in which they enjoy it whenever and wherever they want to listen. Literature is also
representing people emotion, imagination, ideas, moral values, and knowledge.
Literature moves in language as a
medium, while themedium comprises two layers;
the latent content of language-our intuitive record of experience and the particular conformation of a given
language-the specific how of our record of experience. Understanding a literary work,
especially on poem, needs high interpretation
to interpret the meaning, so that meaning is a crucial unit in any language, therefore, Jackobson (in Fromkin,
1999: 151) stated that language without meaning
is meaningless.
Song is a poem form which is
sounded said Waluyo inMuallifah (2002:2). A song contains language exposition used by
composer to express his or her willing, thought,
feeling. The variations of word, which areused by composer, are commonly.
Moreover, every song has a lyric
and every lyrics of song consists of diction.
The diction can affect and create
various meaning according to the word it self.
The term lyric now design noted a
short poem that emphasized the expression of the individual feeling, the thought and
emotion rather than external events or attitudes
(Reaske: 1996:35). Lyrics can represent the feeling, the thought, and the willingness of the composer.

and develop the information of the semantic study. Practically, the result of this study
are expected to be useful for the researcher herself or to give a valuable knowledge and
furtherinformation for any readers generally
and also be alternative references for other researchers especially in conducting the same research.
1.5 Scope and limitation of the Study There are many aspects, which can be analyzed
in this title, but the researcher focusses
