INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of study Novel is
a literary work which is the most popular in the world. This literary work is widely spread because it can
influence people mind. As reading
resource, novel can be devided into two; as a serious work and as a entertainment work. These two divisions could
be right but still need another argument.
A serious novel not just regarded as a beautiful, attractive and entertaining work but it should be more than
that. Besides, a serious novel should
give satisfaction to its readers. On the other hand, an entertainment novel is read only for casual interest, and
the reader feels relaxed in finishing the
whole story.
Novel has two functions; as a
social function and personal function. A serious novel is said as social function
because it can educate people through it,
but an entertainment novel doesn’t care about education interest. It just bring the reader to finish it as soon as
possible but get nothing.
Novel “Dewey” was written by
Vicky Myron. This novel was taken from true
story telling about a street kitten in winter 1998. Someone throwed it into the box return at Public Library Spencer,
Iowa, America. It was found by a library
Director, Vicky Myron.

The writer chosed the novel
“Dewey” because she was interested in the story of the novel itself. At the beginning
the novel told about how Dewey touch
Vicky’s life, and then it made the relation between Vicky and her daughter get closer. Besides, it could make
the relation among Spencer’s librarian
more better. Finally, positive impact of Dewey spread widely.
Dewey’s good attitude to the
library’s visitors made it the most beloved cat. In addition, this novel also invited the readers
to think in positive way in solving human
problem.
In this paper, the writer wants
to give the meaning of fable, the analysis of part of the intrinsic element and to describe
the part characters of the story.
The Objective of Study 1.3 The
Scope of Writing In fact, there are so many aspects can be seen in the novel,
those are interesting to be studied.
Therefore, the scope of writing is focused only on the Fabel analysis in Vicky Myron’s Novel.
Basically, the paper consists of
five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction. The second one is concerned
with a summary of the novel, the third
one is concerned with the review of related literature in novel story, the four one is concerned with the fabel
analysis of the novel and the last chapter
discusses the conclusions and suggestions.
1.4 The Method of Writing In writing this
paper, the writer has applied one method, which is known as the library research. It means that
the writer doesn’t use informants as the
resources of the required data, but she collects data from written text, and the main resources of the required data
which deal with, the fable analysis is
taken from Vicky Myron’s Novel. Finally, the writer also used the novel as an additional source of the analysis. To get
more information about this novel and
the author, the writer searches in internet as well.
